PROVO, Utah – The state of Utah continues to produce great high school football talent. Fresh off an NFL draft where the state saw seven local high school players selected, the talent pool locally keeps getting better.

A prime example of that was the speed some of the future gridiron stars showed at the BYU Track & Field Invitational in Provo on Friday.

During the Boys 100-meter dash, the top five local runners are student-athletes expected to have football careers after high school. Leading the way was Cody Hagen from Corner Canyon.

Hagen, a 2022 wide receiver recruit, who has offers from BYU, Utah, and Utah State, ran a 10.52 100-meter. That’s scorching fast.  Anything below 11 seconds is going to turn the heads of football coaches on the recruiting trail. You get into the 10.5 range; that’s elite speed. Hagen nearly broke the state record of 10.47 set back in 1981 by Murray’s Brian Hazelgren.

What’s crazy is that Hagen still finished with the second-best time in the 100-meter dash. The top runner was Bishop Gorman’s Zach Branch, a four-star wide receiver recruit who has offers from Alabama and Georgia. Branch, who ran an insane 10.33, also holds an offer from the Utes.

At 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Hagen is currently a three-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite rankings and is the 97th ranked wide receiver nationally in the class of 2022. Hagen will be one of the top players in Utah High School Football to watch this fall.

Behind Hagen was his Corner Canyon teammate Harrison Taggart. Taggart ran a 10.70 in the 100 meters. An outside linebacker prospect in the class of 2022, Taggart has received offers from both Utah and Utah State.

Weber State signee Noah Kjar, the nation’s leading receiver in 2020 at Corner Canyon, ran a 10.78.

Skyridge High cornerback Smith Snowden, who holds offers from all local schools, put up an impressive 10.74 time.

BYU preferred walk-on commit Brock Fabrizio from Alta also ran a 10.84 100-meter.
