SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 13 Brighton Bengals picked up their first win of the year in 5A football’s week two against the Weber Warriors on Friday.
Weber came out of the gates strong and led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Bengals promptly responded with a 17-3 second quarter. The score was knotted at 24-24 at halftime.
After another pair of offsetting scores in the third, the first drive of the fourth was capped off with a Brighton rushing touchdown. The Bengals’ defenmse did its job down the stretch to hold onto the 38-31 win.

Skyline Eagles (4A) 29 @ West Field Longhorns 46
The West Field Longhorns scored 30 points in the second quarter of their win over the Skyline Eagles in week two. Skyline scored 30 in the second half, but the Longhorns stayed in front with a score in each of the last two quarters. QB Easton Eilertson threw for five touchdowns.
Layton Lancers (6A) 6 @ Box Elder Bees 24
The Box Elder Bees went down early, but shut the faucet off on the Layton Lancers to remain undefeated. The momentum really shifted in the third quarter when Korbin Jeppesen picked off Layton and took the house call to put the Bees up by two scores. 10 points in the fourth quarter sealed the deal.
Granger Lancers 54 @ Logan Grizzlies (3A) 19
The Granger Lancers’ offense never took its foot off the gas in a big win over the Logan Grizzlies on the road. Granger scored 14 in the first quarter, 14 in the second quarter, and 19 in the third. Quarterback Owen Griffin threw five touchdowns. Uli Figiel reeled in three, and Mateni Puamau had the other two.

No. 14 Syracuse Titans (6A) 37 @ Roy Royals 12
The Syracuse Titans scored 30 of their 37 points in the first half of their win over the Roy Royals on Friday. Roy tried to keep up with a score in each of the first two quarters, but the offense went cold after the break. Quarterback Ledger Wright threw for three touchdowns, two of which went to Tanner Merril.
Green Canyon Wolves (4A) 9 @ No. 16 Springville Red Devils 27
The Springville Red Devils led for most of the game but put the nail in the coffin with a 14-point fourth quarter as they hosted the Green Canyon Wolves in week two. The momentum really swung in the favor of Springville at the end of the first half as Wesley Yearsley picked off Green Canyon and took it back 40 yards for a pick-six. Two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns ended up sealing the deal.
Wasatch Wasps 27 @ Cyprus Pirates 0
Although the score may say otherwise, it was anybody’s game as the Cyprus Pirates hosted the Wasatch Wasps in week two. The Wasps led 9-0 going into the fourth. Knowing that it would take just two scores to fall behind, Wasatch cushioned its lead with two touchdowns and a field goal in the fourth.
Murray Spartans (4A) 26 @ Taylorsville Warriors 13
The Murray Spartans prevailed over the Taylorsville Warriors in what started as a grinded-out defensive contest. At halftime, the score remained untouched at 0-0. Murray opened scoring with a 9-yard rushing touchdown in the third, and then outscored the Warriors 19-13 in the final quarter.

Union Cougars (3A) 37 @ Hillcrest Huskies 34
The Union Cougars stunned the Hillcrest Huskies at home in week two with a narrow three-point victory. Union trailed 21-14 at the half. Fast forward to the end of the game, they trailed 34-27 with five minutes left. They scored a 75-yard touchdown with four minutes left to tie, got a stop, and then took the late lead with a field goal. Four of the Cougars’ five scores came on the ground.
Kearns Cougars 7 @ Clearfield Falcons 34
The Clearfield Falcons held down their home field with a win over the Kearns Cougars in week two. Leading 19-7 going into the fourth, they made sure to keep the door shut with 15 more points to close the game. Clearfield’s Zane Bassett opened scoring in the first and tied a bow on the game with the Falcons’ last score in the fourth.
Northridge Knights 6 @ Seguin (TX) 31
The Northridge Knights travelled to the Lone Star State looking for their first win of the season, but ended up getting shut down by the Seguin Cougars. The first quarter was competitive, ending 8-6 in favor of the home team. From there, the Cougars scored 23 unanswered and cruised to the victory.
Cedar Valley Aviators (6A) 17 @ Woods Cross Wildcats 35
The Woods Cross Wildcats’ offense outpaced the Cedar Valley Aviators on the way to their first win on Friday. The Aviators put up points in every quarter, but 14 in the first and third quarters put Woods Cross comfortably out in front. Wildcats rushers Viliami Tapa’atoutai and Shayden Gerratt combined for five touchdowns.
