Salt Lake County Player of the Week – Phill Holland, Murray
The Murray Spartans and Uinta Utes squared off for the first time in 39 years last Friday and the wait was worth it. Holland had the Spartans offense humming as he countered Utes quarterback Landon Woods’ heroics with the teams trading touchdowns throughout regulation in a classic quarterback duel.
The Spartans’ inability to make extra points in regulation allowed Uintah to stay in the contest and a late touchdown pass for Uintah tied the contest, forcing overtime. Holland and Murray then wasted no time striking first with Holland tossing a 25-yard touchdown pass on their first play from scrimmage.
Murray converted the PAT and while Uintah also scored on their ensuing series, the Utes opted to go for two and the win, but Murray’s defense was able to turn them back and secure a thrilling 39-38 victory. Olsen finished the game with 309 yards passing and three touchdowns while also adding a touchdown on the ground.
