Week 2 Recap For 4A Utah High School Football

Uintah Utes 8 @ No. 24 Mountain Crest Mustangs 62

The Mountain Crest Mustangs allowed just one score in their game against the Uintah Utes, and it helped that the one score came in the same quarter that they scored 42 points for themselves. Mountain Crest QB Brayden Larsen threw five passing touchdowns, three of which went to Kael Olsen.

Cottonwood Colts 0 @ Bear River Bears 77

The Bear River Bears scored an eye-popping 77 points in a shutout week two win over the Cottonwood Colts on Friday. The Bears scored 35 points in each of the first two quarters. Bear River running back Rigdon Vonk punched in five touchdowns by himself.

No. 11 Provo Bulldogs 24 @ No. 18 Crimson Cliffs Mustangs 27

The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs scored a touchdown with no time left on the clock to defeat the Provo Bulldogs at home. Crimson Cliffs led 14-0 at halftime, but after a 17-point third quarter from the Bulldogs, they eventually found themselves trailing 24-20. Van Dailey punched in a score on the goal line with zeroes on the clock to steal the victory.

Morgan Trojans (3A) 35 @ No. 22 Sky View Bobcats 27

The Morgan Trojans shocked the Sky View Bobcats by fighting off a late run to sneak out a win on the road. The Trojans scored all 35 of their points in the first half. Sky View slowly crept back into the game with 24 points in the third and fourth quarters. After the final score with 4:30 left, the Morgan defense held strong to stay in front and take the win.

Viewmont Vikings (5A) 51 @ Jordan Beetdiggers 0

The Viewmont Vikings kept the Jordan Beetdiggers winless in week two and did so in convincing fashion. The Vikings scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters and held on down the stretch to secure the shutout. Five different Viewmont players scored a touchdown in the game.

No. 25 Olympus Titans (5A) 52 @ East Leopards 0

The Olympus Titans were yet another team to come out on top in a high-scoring shutout as they faced the East Leopards in week two. The Titans had two quarterbacks throw for two touchdowns to four different receivers, and two running backs score a total of three touchdowns.

Pine View Panthers 34 @ Cedar Reds (3A) 50

The final three quarters were filled with offensive explosions, but it was the 14-0 first quarter that lifted the Cedar Reds past the Pine View Panthers at home in week two. Every Reds player who scored did so more than once. Receiver Slade Parsons had three, and running backs Braxton DeMille and Gavin DeMille each had two.

Moapa Valley (NV) 28 @ Hurricane Tigers 35

The Hurricane Tigers spoiled the Moapa Valley Pirates’ trip up north by scoring 28 points in the second half of a come-from-behind victory. Running back Dylan Gabriel ran in three of the Tigers’ five scores.

Hunter Wolverines (5A) 14 @ Highland Rams 13

The Highland Rams scored all 13 of their points in the fourth quarter, but the effort was too little, too late as the Hunter Wolverines snuck away with a one-point win. The Rams had a chance to tie in the final minute, but the extra point attempt missed, leaving the Hunter lead intact.

Deseret Peak Golden Eagles 9 @ North Sanpete Hawks (3A) 49

The North Sanpete Hawks showed off their offensive consistency as they cruised to a win over the Deseret Peak Golden Eagles at home. The Hawks scored 14 points in every quarter other than the third, where they scored seven. Ayden Akee had two rushing touchdowns, and Milo Hendry had two receiving touchdowns.

No. 7 Ridgeline Riverhawks 39 @ No. 17 Park City Miners 3

There was never a question for the Ridgeline Riverhawks as they cruised to a blowout win over the Park City Miners on Friday. Quarterback Nate Dahle and receiver Graham Livingston connected on two touchdowns through the air, including a 68-yarder in the third quarter.

No. 8 West Panthers 48 @ No. 23 Timpanogos Timberwolves 0

The West Panthers delivered a statement 21-point first quarter and cruised to a shutout win over the Timpanogos Timberwolves in week two. West quarterback Kamden Lopati threw for an impressive five touchdowns to four different receivers. King Long hauled in two scores with over 100 yards receiving.

Canyon View Falcons (3A) 13 @ Dixie Flyers 27

A 13-point first quarter propelled the Dixie Flyers to their first win of the season over the Canyon View Falcons in week two. Both teams scored six points in the third quarter, and Dixie outscored Canyon View by one point in the fourth. Running back Krew Berezay finished off two drives for the Flyers with red zone rumbles for six.

Bonneville Lakers (5A) 20 @ Stansbury Stallions 53

The Stansbury Stallions scored 46 of their 53 points across two quarters to defeat the Bonneville Lakers on Friday. After the first quarter ended 7-6, Stansbury exploded for 26 points in the second and carried that momentum through halftime for 20 more points in the third quarter. Five Stallions players found the end zone, with Lincoln Reutzel catching two touchdowns.

Juab Wasps (3A) 38 @ Payson Lions 33

After a first quarter that saw a combined 42 points, it appeared this game was heading for a Friday Night Lights shootout. After the first, Payson’s offense fizzled out and Juab took full advantage with a 17-point second quarter. They were held scoreless in the second half, but the early lead proved too much to overcome. Six of the 10 touchdowns scored in this game were on plays that totaled 40 or more yards.

Shadow Ridge (NV) 21 @ Snow Canyon Warriors 31

The Shadow Ridge Mustangs were the second 4A Nevada school to leave Utah disappointed. The Snow Canyon Warriors scored 21 points in the second quarter and did just enough to get into the win column at home. Quarterback Parker Olson threw for one touchdown and added two more with his legs.

Mountain View Bruins 27 @ Tooele Buffaloes 35

A strong first half led the Tooele Buffaloes to a one-score win over the Mountain View Bruins on Friday. Tooele scored 27 of its 35 points in the first half. Running back Kami Vaeknuku and receiver Mavrik Charlson each scored two touchdowns.
