PROVO, Utah – The much-anticipated season-opener is nearly upon us as the BYU Cougars enter a week of game prep for the first time in 2025.
BYU kicks off the 2025 campaign against Portland State at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, August 30. The game starts at 6 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

This game marks the second matchup between these programs. BYU opened the 2017 season with a 20-6 home win over the Vikings. BYU head coach Kalani Sitake and Portland State HC Bruce Barnum match wits against each other for the second time.
The Cougars are 8-1 in season openers with Sitake at the helm. Sitake is 3-1 in season-openers at home.
Portland State is a member of the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings went 3-8 in 2024, finishing tied for sixth in the Big Sky. Portland State is 0-1 in 2025 after suffering a 42-0 loss to Tarleton State in Week Zero.
