PROVO, Utah – BYU signee Xavion Staton will have some on-court experience with AJ Dybantsa before the two play college basketball together.

The 7-foot-1 Staton from Las Vegas, Nevada, will conclude his high school career at Utah Prep.

Xavion Staton to conclude high school career at Utah Prep

“Let’s welcome the best big man in the country @XavionStaton who has transferred to Utah Prep for the remainder of his senior year! Let’s work,” wrote Utah Prep’s official X account on Monday.

Staton, one of the nation’s top centers in the 2025 class, was previously at Sierra Vista in Las Vegas. The move to Utah Prep, based in Hurricane, Utah, is 150 miles north of Vegas.

Staton joining Utah Prep allows him to develop on-court chemistry with No. 1 recruit and future BYU teammate AJ Dybantsa.

One of the highest-rated recruits in BYU history

While Dybantsa was the consensus No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class, Staton isn’t far behind. The talented big man is No. 30 overall in the 247Sports Composite rating. Dybantsa and Staton are the two highest-rated prospects BYU has ever signed.

“Xavion, I think offensively, he’ll fit in really well with the amount of vertical threats that we like to have out there. He’s a guy who’s getting more skilled as he progresses in his high school career,” BYU head coach Kevin Young said on Staton after he signed in November. “Then defensively, he’s the best rim protector in the high school ranks in the entire country.”

Utah Prep plays a national schedule in the Grind Session. They are coming off a showcase event over the weekend in Arizona, where they defeated Faith Family Academy (Texas) 80-63. Dybantsa was the MVP of the game with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

Along with Dybantsa and Staton, Utah Prep also has BYU target Anthony Felesi on their roster from the 2026 class.

The first glimpse of Dybantsa and Staton on the floor together will be this Friday in Newark, New Jersey, as Utah Prep takes on Dynamic Prep (Texas) in the Iverson Classic.
