Week 1 Recap For 4A Utah High School Football

Non-Region

Mountain Crest Mustangs 38 @ East Leopards 0

The Mountain Crest Mustangs put their best foot forward in week one, easily defeating the East Leopards in a shutout. Five different Mustangs found the end zone and quarterback Brayden Larsen had a hat trick of passing touchdowns.

Murray Spartans 39 @ Uintah Utes 38

The Murray Spartans stole a one-point overtime win on the road against the Uintah Utes in week one. Tied 32-32 at the end of regulation, Murray got the ball first in OT and did their job with a touchdown and extra point. The Utes also quickly scored. However, they decided to go for the win with a two-point conversion and got stuffed on the goal line.

Box Elder Bees 64 @ Deseret Peak Golden Eagles 0

The biggest blowout award for week one in 4A goes to the Box Elder Bees. They held the Deseret Peak Golden Eagles scoreless while scoring an absurd nine touchdowns. Maybe the most impressive part of the performance was the fact that eight different Bees players found the end zone. Judd Howells was the only person to score twice. He punched in two 2-yard touchdowns in the first quarter.

Bear River Bears 14 @ Cedar Reds 51

The first quarter looked to set up a competitive match, but the Cedar Reds jumped ahead in the second half on their way to a blowout win over the Bear River Bears. Cedar scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter. The second half was a similar story as the Reds outscored the Bears 21-7. Braxton DeMille and Slade Parsons each punched in two touchdowns.

Dixie Flyers 14 @ Richfield Wildcats (3A) 24

The Richfield Wildcats were able to snag a week one win in their home opener against the Dixie Flyers. The Wildcats struck first as Trey Yardley punched in a 12-yard TD in the first quarter. That ended up being the only score in the first half. Richfield held strong and outscored Dixie 17-14 in the second half to start their season in the win column.

Morgan Trojans (3A) 14 @ No. 7 Ridgeline Riverhawks 34

The Morgan Trojans fared well but were ultimately outmatched by the Ridgeline Riverhawks’ steady attack in week one. Ridgeline scored one touchdown in each of the first three quarters and made it two in the fourth. Wide receiver Graham Livingston played an excellent game, catching two touchdowns and rushing for a third.

No. 12 Sky View Bobcats 28 @ Salem Hills Skyhawks 30

The Salem Hills Skyhawks shocked the Sky View Bobcats in week one, overcoming an early deficit to sneak away with a two-point victory. After trailing 14-6 through one, Salem Hills scored 11 unanswered in the second quarter and led 17-14 at the break. They matched each of the two Sky View touchdowns in the second half to come out on top.

No. 23 Green Canyon Wolves 14 @ No. 15 Provo Bulldogs 27

The Provo Bulldogs built an early lead against the Green Canyon Wolves, which allowed them to hold on despite getting outscored in the second half. The Bulldogs led 17-0 at the half. Green Canyon outscored them after the break, 14-10.  The highlight of the game came in the first quarter with Provo QB Gehrig Orchard connecting with wide receiver Crew DeMartini for a 96-yard opening score.

North Sanpete Hawks (3A) 45 @ Cottonwood Colts 7

The North Sanpete Hawks shocked the Cottonwood Colts at home in week one, securing a massive win that saw them score 14 or more points in three quarters. The Hawks’ ground attack was elite on Friday. Chaetton Osborne, Ayden Akee, and Maddox Madsen all ran in two touchdowns apiece. Cottonwood’s only score came at the end of the first half on an 84-yard bomb to Ethan Yazzie.

Skyline Eagles 23 @ Stansbury Stallions 26

A 19-point second quarter propelled the Stansbury Stallions to a narrow win over the Skyline Eagles on Friday. Each team scored seven in the first, and the Eagles outscored the Stallions 6-0 in the second half, but winning the second quarter by nine points proved to be the difference. QB Brighton Reutzel threw for three passing touchdowns.

Westlake Thunder 47 @ Highland Rams 14

The Westlake Thunder held the Highland Rams scoreless through the first three quarters, paving the way for a big week one win. Jordan Fairbanks had arguably the two biggest highlights of the night, one on each side of the ball. In the second quarter, he broke free for a 60-yard rushing touchdown, and just before halftime, he picked off the Rams and returned it 45 yards for a defensive touchdown.

No. 23 Timpanogos Timberwolves 55 @ Juan Diego Soaring Eagle 32

The Timpanogos Timberwolves put on an offensive clinic as they cruised to a week one win over the Juan Diego Soaring Eagles. Timpanogos scored a whopping 41 first-half points. Juan Diego attempted to make it interesting with 13 points in the second quarter and 19 in the fourth, but they ended up falling short. Donovan Holloway and Tevita Mounga each had two touchdowns for the Timberwolves.

Manti Templars (3A) 31 @ Pine View Panthers 44

A 28-point first quarter put the Pine View Panthers in the driver’s seat for their week one matchup against the Manti Templars. With that said, the high-scoring nature of this game was showcased in the opening minutes. Pine View opened scoring with a 76-yard bomb. Less than 15 seconds later, Manti responded with an 80-yard long ball of their own. Ultimately, the Panthers came out on top in this shootout.

Virgin Valley (NV) 0 @ Hurricane Tigers 27

The Hurricane Tigers welcomed the Virgin Valley Bulldogs to Utah with a week one shutout. All 27 of the Tigers’ points came in the first half. Three of the four touchdowns came on the ground, each to a different back.

Jordan Beetdiggers 3 @ Canyon View Falcons (3A) 35

The Canyon View Falcons were one of the 3A teams that managed to pick up a convincing week one win. The Falcons held the Jordan Bettdiggers to just one field goal while they marched in five touchdowns. Quarterback Ryder Miller played an excellent game, throwing for two touchdowns and adding two more with his feet.

Payson Lions 36 @ Mountain View Bruins 40

In a battle of offensive bursts versus a steady attack, the Mountain View Bruins showed the Payson Lions the value of being unpredictable. The Bruins scored 15 points in the second quarter. The real difference was following their scoreless third quarter with 18 points in the fourth. Wide receiver Hyrum Stafford caught three touchdowns, one of which was the game-winner with 10 seconds on the clock.
