PROVO, Utah – BYU football has two players on the prestigious Maxwell Award preseason watch list entering the 2023 season.

Those players are quarterback Kedon Slovis and running back Aidan Robbins. Both are new additions to the BYU program after transferring in from other FBS teams.

The Maxwell Award is awarded annually to college football’s player of the year. Last season, USC quarterback Caleb Williams took home the honor.

BYU is one of 17 programs with two players on the preseason Maxwell Award watch list.

BYU football starting QB Kedon Slovis

A lot of attention will be centered on BYU quarterback Kedon Slovis this season. Slovis comes to BYU after stints at USC and Pitt last season. Through four years in college football, Slovis has passed for 9,973 yards.

Slovis was named BYU’s starting quarterback after spring practices concluded in April. He picked BYU in the transfer portal over offers from SEC programs, Notre Dame, and UCLA.

Aidan Robbins looks to make an impact

Like Slovis, Aidan Robbins is on the third stop of his collegiate career. Robbins, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, originally played for the hometown Louisville Cardinals and then transferred to UNLV. Last season with the Rebels, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Robbins rushed for 1,009 yards and nine touchdowns. He also hauled in 23 receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown in his one season in Sin City.

Robbins comes to BYU as a graduate transfer and is already enrolled in a master’s program at the faith-based university. He has two years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career.

In the preseason, Phil Stee’s College Football Preview named Robbins a 1st Team All-Big 12 running back.

Along with BYU, the other FBS programs with two players on the Maxwell Award watch list include BYU opponents Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas. The rest of the two-player programs on the list are Arizona, Boise State, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, South Alabama, South Carolina, Syracuse, Texas, Washington, Western Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
