BYU Football WR Makes Impressive One-Handed Catch During Spring Ball

PROVO, Utah – BYU football spring practices are into week two, and we’ve got an early candidate for the play of spring.
Junior wide receiver Talmage Gunther made an impressive one-handed catch during Monday’s March 13 practice. See for yourself.

Gunther had BYU defensive back Dean Jones defending him, and he still came up with the one-handed grab.
Talmage Gunther enters his fifth year at BYU
The 6-foot, 190-pound Gunther is in his fifth season with the BYU football program. He’s played wide receiver throughout but has also found a role on special teams as a kick returner or punt of coverage units. Gunther has appeared in 37 games during his BYU career.
A former Lone Peak High School star quarterback, Gunther signed with BYU as a preferred walk-on after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Zimbabwe. Gunther was one of the first two “employees” of BYU’s famous Built Bar NIL deal in 2021 for walk-ons.

Looking ahead to this season, if Gunther continues to make catches like the one he did in practice, he could have an opportunity to be in the two-deep this fall. BYU football continues spring practice until Friday, April 14. The Cougars will have an open scrimmage to the public on March 31 at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Kickoff for the spring game is at 3 p.m.
