BYU Star Lauren Gustin Sets Single-Season Record For Rebounds

PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s basketball star Lauren Gustin has put together a historic season.
The 6-foot-1 forward continues to pile up accolades. Her latest accomplishment set the single-season BYU record for rebounds.

Gustin passed Hall of Famer Tina Gunn Robison’s record of 462 rebounds in a season with her 463rd board late in the second quarter in Monday’s game against Portland.
Tina Gunn Robison’s jersey hangs in the rafters at BYU. So to pass any of her records is a significant accomplishment.
Gustin finished the game on Monday with 24 rebounds to go along with 15 points in a 61-49 loss to Portland. She is now up to 478 rebounds this season.
Lauren Gustin sets single-season BYU rebounds record
For the season, the Salem, Utah native averages 16.2 points and 16.4 rebounds per game. Her 16.4 rebounds per game are number one nationally this season. The only player close to that mark is LSU’s Angel Reese, with 16.0 per game.
Gustin has pulled down 70 more defensive rebounds to date than Reese this season. At the same time, Reese has the edge over Gustin on offensive rebounds.
BYU turns attention to the WCC Tournament
BYU finished the regular season with a 14-15 overall record and a 9-9 mark in West Coast Conference play. The Cougars earned the 5th seed in the WCC Tournament and will play on Friday at 1 p.m. against Pepperdine or Santa Clara.
In a combined four meetings against the Waves and Broncos this season, Gustin piled up 67 rebounds against those two teams.
It will be interesting to see if this is the last postseason run for Gustin. The star player has another year of eligibility remaining due to the COVID season two years ago. If she opts to use that extra year, Gustin will be able to play in BYU’s first season in the Big 12 Conference.
