PROVO, Utah – An area of focus for BYU football as they enter the Big 12 Conference is along the defensive line.

BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill and his staff turned to Snow College for additional help.

Defensive tackle Stone Mulitalo announced his pledge to BYU. A former Skyridge High standout, Mulitalo earned a three-star ranking by 247Sports amidst the pandemic-stricken class of 2021.

The 6-foot-3, 313-pound lineman ended up at Snow, where he has played the past two seasons.

Stone Mulitalo was the first Snow Badger to commit

Mulitalo took in an official visit last weekend, announcing his commitment to BYU.

“I had an amazing time on my official visit this weekend. With that being…IM ALL IN AND COMMITTED [emoji] time to go to work,” tweeted Mulitalo.

Mulitalo played in six games last season. He recorded 12 tackles and two sacks from the interior of Snow’s defensive line. Mulitalo will have three years to play two during his BYU career.

An hour after Mulitalo gave a verbal commitment to the Cougs, another Snow College lineman jumped at an opportunity to play for BYU.

David Latu commits to BYU football

David Latu was the other commit over the weekend. Like Mulitalo, Latu was taking part in an official visit to Provo before National Signing Day this Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Latu was a second-team NJCAA All-American during his first season with the Badgers. He played in nine games, recording 23 tackles, four of which were tackles for loss, plus he had 1.5 sacks for Snow.

A former Bingham High Miner, during Latu’s one year in Ephraim, he received scholarship offers from Boise State and Washington State.

Last month Latu’s father, Sione, passed away at 56 years old. Latu paid tribute to his father in his commitment post.

“Emotional past month, and I can’t help but feel close to my Father, that passed away last month while being at BYU. I want first to say Glory to God always and to my Family, especially my Mom and Pops [emoji] [emoji]. Special Thank you to [Sione Pouha], [Jay Hill], [Jan Jorgensen], [Kalani Sitake],” said Latu.

Latu will have four years to play three seasons at BYU.

A third Snow College defensive lineman could join BYU in this 2023 recruiting cycle. The other is John Taumoepeau. Taumoepeau, a 6-foot-2, 277-pound lineman from Renton, Washington, joined Mulitalo and Latu during their official visit last weekend.
