BYU Football Adds Boise State Edge Rusher From Transfer Portal

PROVO, Utah – BYU football picks up a commitment from Boise State edge rusher Isaiah Bagnah. The former Bronco announced his commitment to BYU on Signing Day.

Bagnah recorded 10 sacks during his four seasons with Boise State. He has two years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career. A native of Canada, Bagnah could play along the edge or at a weakside linebacker. He played both positions for Boise State.
“He’s played a lot of Division One reps right now at a high level, and he brings a twitchy pass rusher off the edge, and he’s multiple,” said BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill. “He can play outside backer; he can play defensive end. He’s physical; he’s athletic; I think he fits what we need on the edge.”

Isaiah Bagnah has two years of eligibility remaining
BYU finished the 2022 regular season with 13 sacks. They haven’t had a pass rusher get a double-digit number of sacks since 2015. Bagnah has the potential to be a playmaker that could provide a playmaking spark to BYU’s new-look defense under Jay Hill.
“He reminds me a lot of the guys that BYU has had here in the past. The Van Noy’s, the Takitaki’s, Fred Warner’s, he’s a similar body type to those guys,” said Jay Hill.
Bagnah announced his intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal during Boise State’s season back in October. Since entering the portal officially in December, he received interest from Jacksonville State, Hawaii, Northern Arizona, and Montana.
Newly hired BYU defensive assistant Kelly Poppinga worked with Bagnah this past season on The Blue.
Bagnah is BYU’s third commitment from the Transfer Portal in the 2023 cycle. One of his teammates at Boise State, Will Ferrin, is also committed to BYU. The other transfer portal pickup is UNLV running back Aidan Robbins, who was also officially announced on Wednesday.
