Tom Holmoe Knows Most Of BYU Football’s First Big 12 Schedule

PROVO, Utah – BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe knows which opponents are on the first Big 12 schedule for BYU football.
The 2023 Big 12 schedule is expected to be released in late November or early December. So it’s coming up. Holmoe spoke on BYU’s in-house TV network, BYUtv, in the pregame of the Utah Tech football game about that first Big 12 schedule. He even spilled a potential date for when the Big 12 schedule could be coming out.
“I’ve already seen most of it,” Holmoe said laughingly to BYUtv. “We don’t know dates, but we’ve pretty much have worked out a lot of the things, like who you might be playing. It’s changeable; it’s not certain. But these are things that if it’s going to be done December 1st, you’ve got to have it ready.”
Does he like the schedule?
“I like it. But I mean, how would you not? You’re playing every game on the schedule is against a Big 12 team,” said Holmoe who has pieced together Independent schedules since 2010. “Some are home and some are away. What else can you ask for? I think down the road, you might be a little bit more picky about the times of the game and where you play them and back-to-backs and all those things. But right now, we’re just eager to get in there and get playing.”

“Not really, I can’t tell you that.”
If Holmoe’s mention of December 1 holds up, that would be in the lead-up to the Big 12 Football Championship Game two days later in Arlington. The Big 12 Conference has typically released schedules around that event.
Big 12 Conference in 2023
The Big 12 Conference will be a 14-team league in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston will join the conference officially on July 1, 2023. The two outgoing members, Texas and Oklahoma, are still expected to remain in the Big 12 through the conclusion of their Grant of Rights with the league on June 30, 2025.
After that date, the two bell cow brands will leave for the SEC, and the Big 12 will operate at its namesake for the first time since 2010.
