Zac Blair Leads Locals Following Day One At Utah Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU golf star Zac Blair concluded his opening round at the Utah Championship with a 7-under-par, 64, to sit just 1 shot behind the leaders.
Zac Blair Leads Locals At Utah Championship
Blair performed well throughout the opening day notching seven birdies to conclude at seven-under-par. Blair averaged 318 yards off the tee while hitting 79% of fairways and 78% of greens in regulation while averaging just 1.6 putts per green.
Blair impressed with his putting as he rolled a number of long attempts into the bottom of the cup.
Patrick Fishburn Impresses
Patrick Fishburn‘s opening round included three eagles, one birdie, and one bogey. His impressive driving display as he averaged 357 yards off the tee. Furthermore, Fishburn paired his impressive power with accuracy as he found 77% of fairways in regulation.

He hit 82% of greens in regulation and averaged just 1.6 putts per green.

Other notable performers with local ties were Austen Christiansen who carded a four-under-par round. Peter Kuest and current BYU super senior Carson Lundell, who is playing as an amateur, posted rounds of three under par.
Daniel Summerhays, arguably the most famous local golfer in the field, is playing on a sponsors exception and concluded at one-under-par.
The only player with local ties to post a score over par was David Simmins, a current senior at BYU who is playing as an amateur carded a two-over-par, 73.
The Utah Championship is being played at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah. The seven local players in the field are the most that any Utah Championship has had since its inception in 1990. In 2021, three local players were in the field.
The golf course is playing firm, as players are getting a lot of roll when their tee shots find the fairways. The greens are firm and are not generating much spin if any. If a player’s ball is in the rough, the player will not be able to generate any spin.
