CEDAR HILLS, Utah – After a busy month of hosting recruits on official visits, the BYU football program hosted the local media for an annual golf event.
Since BYU moved to the Big 12 Conference in 2023, the Cougars have no longer had their own media day event at BYU Broadcasting as they did as an FBS Independent. Instead, they host a summer check-in with interviews for the media that includes golf at Cedar Hills Golf Club.

The golfing featured a scramble event with a two-putt maximum once the ball hit the green to help the pace of play.

KSL TV, KSL NewsRadio, and KSL Sports Zone all had foursomes participating on Monday.
The Cougar Sports Saturday crew included me, co-host Matt Baiamonte, and producer Nate Slack. My brother-in-law, Parker Brown of West Jordan, Utah, joined our group.
We finished with a score of 66.
Notable performances on the course
The top foursome on the day was a group of former BYU football players. Former quarterbacks Jaren Hall and Baylor Romney and offensive linemen, current Indianapolis Colt, Blake Freeland and Connor Pay put together a score of 54 to lead the way.
As a prize, they won Minky Couture blankets with the vintage Atari Cougar logo on them.
Hall and Pay also claimed victories in some of the contests on individual holes. The former star quarterback at BYU won the longest drive of the day on hole No. 10. Pay, meanwhile, earned free Nico’s Pizza for a year with his closest to the hole teeshot on par-3 No. 11.
BYU football coaches participated in the annual media event held after the final weekend of recruiting visits.
Kalani Sitake, entering his 10th season as BYU’s head coach, was paired up with defensive coordinator Jay Hill and BYU athletics administrators David Almodova and Casey Stauffer.
BYU passing game coordinator Fesi Sitake had the longest drive of the day on hole No. 4.
Coaches are now gearing up for some vacation time before fall camp begins at the end of July.
Some of the current BYU football players who participated in the event included Michigan offensive tackle transfer Andrew Gentry, safety Tanner Wall, wide receivers Parker Kingston and Chase Roberts, long snapper Garrison Grimes, and tight end Ethan Erickson.
Kingston told reporters on Monday that he is the best golfer on the BYU football team. The former Roy High quarterback boasts a 2 handicap.
