PROVO, Utah – BYU football coach Kalani Sitake never passes up the opportunity to show off his dance moves.

The seventh-year headman will show the moves after a big win, as he did after defeating rival Utah last season. Or he’ll bust a move with the dads from “The Dance Club” in Orem.

Two years ago, in the early stages of the Coronavirus pandemic, Sitake and his daughter, Sadie, danced to a Beyonce song. Well, Sitake is at it again. This time with other dads from “The Dance Club.”

Kalani Sitake busts out the dance moves on TikTok

In a TikTik video posted by user adykandell, Sitake is dancing with fellow dads from The Dance Club. The dads are dancing to “Woo Tang Wit It” by DJ Chipman. They were all together in Phoenix for a dance convention that The Dance Club participated in.

The video has eclipsed 2.7 million views on TikTok, which featured one dad breaking out the “worm” dance. Most of the comments didn’t realize BYU’s head coach was one of the dads in the video.

“No one gonna mention Kalani Sitake … BYU football coach just chillin,” wrote TikTok user Nicholas White.

Others admired all the dancing by writing, “no crumbs.” Means these dads straight up ate that dance and left nothing behind. Hard to argue with that commentary.

“Dance Dads” aren’t slowing down

The dance dads haven’t stopped there, releasing another dance with Sitake front and center dancing to Lil Nas X’s “That’s What I Want.”

Where did Sitake get these dance moves? Last September, after his BYU football team jumped out to a 2-0 start, Sitake appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter and host Matt Berrie asked Sitake that very question.

“There’s no skill involved; it’s just effort. Everybody can dance. It just takes effort and what you do is open yourself up for criticism,” Sitake said. “But when the boys ask for it, I’m going to give it to them. When the fans ask for it, I’m going to give it to them. That’s a good sign.

“You only regret not having a great time with the people that you love and the people you work really hard with. We do whatever we can to have a lot of fun. We don’t party here at BYU, so we try to do it here in the locker room at the football stadium.”

Sitake will have a chance to show the dance moves again when BYU kicks off its 2022 season. This fall marks BYU’s final year as an Independent program before becoming a P5 team in the Big 12. Which alone might be reason to break out a dance or two.
