ESPN’s “High School Kickoff”
Grant Union is the defending CIF Open Division 2 State Champion. So it should be a good test for BYU’s future star signal-caller.
The national television broadcast is part of ESPN’s “High School Football Kickoff.” It will be the third game in a high school tripleheader on Saturday.
Lyons led Folsom to the Division I-AA CIF regional finals last year, before falling to Pittsburgh (CA). Two years ago, Folsom, led by Lyons, won the Division I-A state championship.
Lyons, a 6-foot-2.5, 215-pound prospect, is currently ranked as the 27th overall prospect in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings, eight spots down from when he committed to BYU in June.

247Sports’ own rankings tab Lyons as the No. 1 recruit in California and the fifth quarterback overall for the 2026 class.
Lyons is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he committed to BYU on the Pat McAfee Show in June, he told McAfee that he intends to serve a mission for the Church after he graduates from high school this December.
Lyons has a massive social media following. The TikTok star has over 282,400 followers on the quick video platform and another 186,000 followers on Instagram.
Since taking over as the starting quarterback at Folsom High as a sophomore, Lyons has passed for 6,589 yards and 84 touchdowns. He’s completed 68% and averaged 227.2 yards per game through the air.
The dual-threat prospect is a top-shelf talent on the ground as well. Through two seasons at Folsom, Lyons has rushed for 1,514 yards and 37 touchdowns over the past two years.
