PROVO, Utah – BYU’s Jaren Hall has spent each week this football season with UnRivaled detailing his first season as the starting quarterback for the Cougars. This time it is bowl week and the Cougars are preparing to face off against UAB in the Independence Bowl.

Before talking about playing the Blazers, Hall discussed a few of his favorite moments from the 2021 season.

One of the top moments came in the Arizona State game when running back Tyler Allgeier punched the ball out of a Sun Devils player and Hall recovered the ball.

“The Arizona State game when I threw the interception in the red zone and he chased to do down, punch the ball out and I was able to fall on,” Hall said.

This moment was not just a fan favorite but also one of the biggest plays nationally.

There is a lot to look back on fondly for BYU football as they went 6-1 vs. Power 5 opponents. Hall mentioned the wins over Virginia and USC wins from this past year.

“I think Virginia is definitely up there. That’s one of the most memorable for me. I think a lot of guys just how long of a night it was,” Hall said. “It was some of our best football we put on display all year, and it was just fun all around offensively, defensively, special teams, and everyone was just clicking. USC a couple of weeks ago. That was a good one, too. Just playing a good USC opponent. The team had a lot to fight for. That night they gave us their best shot. It was a grind all night long. To see how our depth was, how many guys we were down that game but still found a way to win against a really good USC team. That was another fun one that I always remember.”

Quarterback Room Is A Close Group

One of the biggest questions coming into the season was who would be the starting quarterback for the Cougars. Hall ended up getting the job over Jacob Conover and Baylor Romney. There were questions about how the trio would handle the decision and if the backups would look for a new opportunity to play college football.

All three ended up playing with Hall sitting out due to an injury early in the season. Throughout the whole year, there was nothing about Conover or Romney being unhappy or looking to go into the transfer portal.

Hall said that the group is very strongly connected and has each other’s back, and even when not playing, there are ways to get better and help the team win.

“It’s a dynamic we’re all used to from high school and to college, they’re always competing and the quarterback’s a position when one guy can play. So, it’s not like receiver running back where a lot of guys that can kind of cycle through,” Hall said. “I think it takes the type of maturity amongst all of us. I had to ride the bench for a couple of years and wait for Zach [Wilson] to do his thing, and you still find ways to make good friends with everybody. That’s what all of us have kind of gone through our own little journey there. So, it’s our patience, but also supporting each other on the field. Everyone big rind and we compete. Everyone wants to be the guy. That’s how it’s always been and that’s how I imagine it will continue to be moving forward.”

Hall will be back for another season. The group seems to fully understand where things stand and has the common goal of winning football games.
