PROVO, Utah – BYU football picked up a commitment from Lone Peak High School offensive lineman Trevor Pay.

If the name sounds familiar, you’re right. Pay is the younger brother to BYU starter Connor Pay and the son of former BYU lineman Garry Pay (1989-1992).

Pay (6-3, 255) will join the BYU football program as a preferred walk-on. He was offered a PWO spot by BYU offensive line coach Darrell Funk earlier this month, and now Pay has pounced on that offer.

Pay wrote on social media, “First off, I’d like to thank my Heavenly Father for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game that I love. I would especially like to thank my family for pushing me to be better every single day. Also, a big thanks to Dave Stroshine for the years of work to get me to this point. And thanks to all the coaches I have had throughout the years that have made me the man I am today. With that being said I am excited to announce that I am COMMITTING to Brigham Young University”

Being a preferred walk-on is almost as good as being a scholarship athlete at BYU. The reason for that is the Name, Image, and Likeness partnership the walk-ons have with Built Bar. Back in August, Built Bar inked individual agreements with each preferred walk-on that will cover the cost of tuition for each of those athletes. Built Bar CEO Nick Greer said in August that this is a multi-year agreement.

Pay was a starter at tackle along the offensive line for the State Champion Lone Peak Knights this past season. In the classroom, Pay holds a 4.0 GPA with a 27 ACT. When he gets to BYU, like his older brother, he could end up playing any of the five spots on the line in the future.
