USC Apologizes To BYU For Offensive Chant During Football Game

SALT LAKE CITY – USC Athletics issued an apology to the BYU football program for an offensive chant that took place during the Cougars’ game against the Trojans.

The Trojans hosted the then No. 13 Cougars at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, November 27.
BYU beat USC, 35-31.
During the contest, members of the Trojans’ student section used explicit language in an offensive chant directed at BYU.
The next day, the USC athletic department issued an apology.
“The offensive chant from our student section directed towards BYU during the football game last night does not align with our Trojan values,” USC Athletics tweeted. “It was distasteful and we apologize to the BYU program.”

With the win, the Cougars finished their regular season schedule with a 10-2 record.
BYU will now wait to find out its bowl game and opponent for the postseason. The Cougars are contracted to play in the Independence Bowl but could potentially play in another bowl game depending on the rest of the college football landscape.
