BYU Football Players On Pace To Redshirt For 2021 Season

PROVO, Utah – BYU football has been a program in recent years that has taken full advantage of the four-game redshirt rule.
Since 2018, the four-game redshirt legislation in the NCAA has been in effect and it’s been a valuable resource for student-athletics. One of the notable ones to benefit is current BYU star running back Tyler Allgeier. As a preferred walk-on from Fontana, California, in 2018, Allgeier was able to get used to life as an FBS running back while not impacting his eligibility.

Before 2018, a redshirt season meant a player didn’t compete at all against the opposing competition in a live game.
As the 2021 BYU football season begins to wind down, here’s a list of the athletes in the BYU program that have redshirts available who are on pace to use them this season. Along with the student-athletes that won’t be eligible for a redshirt if they’ve played in more than four games.
This year is interesting because many individuals are in their second season at BYU but still have a redshirt year available due to last season’s free year of eligibility courtesy of the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
