FARMINGTON, Utah – Four-star shooting guard Collin Chandler has decided; he’s signing with BYU basketball.

The 6-foot-4, 170-pound prospect who rose up the recruiting rankings this past summer announced his pledge to Mark Pope and BYU on the first day of the Early Signing Period at Farmington High’s main gym.

Chandler is the 35th ranked recruit nationally in the class of 2022, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the number one ranked prospect in the state of Utah and seventh-rated combo guard nationally.

Collin Chandler picked BYU over top western programs

Chandler picked BYU over Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Stanford, Utah State, Creighton, and Gonzaga. In the online recruiting era that dates back to 2000, Chandler is the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to BYU, passing former Lone Peak High star Eric Mika, who signed in the class of 2013 and went on to have a brief career in the NBA.

During his junior year with the Phoenix, Chandler averaged 22.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Farmington opens up the 2021-22 season on December 2nd against Hillcrest High (Idaho).

On the AAU circuit, Chandler plays for the Utah Prospects, and it was with the Prospects that he made a name for himself as a national recruit showing off his long-distance range, combined with high-flying athleticism.

During the Pangos All-American festival in August, Chandler was considered one of the top players, which featured some of America’s best recruits.

BYU Basketball’s first commitment of 2022

Chandler is the first commitment to BYU basketball in their class of 2022. As a result, he was a top priority for Mark Pope’s staff. On October 23, Chandler took in one of his five official visits to BYU and came away impressed with Pope’s program as he got a front row seat to BYU’s Midnight Madness festivities centered around the Cougars’ energetic student section, The ROC. Students were chanting Chandler’s name during the visit.

The following week, Chandler took his final official visit to the University of Utah.

Chandler is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving a two-year mission before enrolling at BYU is a possibility for the heralded shooting guard. If he opts to serve a mission, his first season at BYU will come while the Cougars are the Big 12 Conference members.

BYU will join the Big 12 beginning in the 2023-24 academic year.
