PROVO, Utah – Through the first five weeks of the season, BYU football kept climbing up the national Top 25 polls. That climb has now turned into an abrupt tumble.

After an upset loss against Boise State, BYU’s tumble was the biggest drop this week in the Top 25 polls.

The 26-17 loss to the Broncos dropped BYU nine spots in the AP Top 25 from No. 10 to No. 19. In the Coaches Poll, BYU fell ten spots to No. 20.

BYU is now 5-1 overall on the season and the schedule doesn’t ease up. The Independent Cougars now gear up for a mid-season three-game stretch of Power Five opponents. It starts with future Big 12 foe Baylor this Saturday in Waco, Texas.

Baylor, who like BYU has a 5-1 record, is currently receiving votes in both national Top 25 polls.

BYU’s top quarterback, Jaren Hall, was back in the starting role after being out for two weeks due to injury.

The Cougars weren’t the only team that experienced an upset this past week. Previously No. 1 ranked Alabama lost to unbanked Texas A&M. Opening the door for a new No. 1 team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs. Their first time being in the top spot during the regular season since 1982.
