Conover Replaces Romney At QB To Start Second Half Of BYU/USU Game

LOGAN, Utah – Freshman Jacob Conover replaced Baylor Romney at quarterback for BYU to start the second half of the Cougars’ game against the Utah State Aggies.

The Aggies hosted the Cougars at Maverik Stadium on Friday, October 1.
After halftime, BYU’s offense took the field to open the third quarter.
Conover took control of the offense in place of Romney, who started the game for the second straight week.
Romney suffered a head injury, according to the BYU Sports Network heard on KSL NewsRadio. He was ruled out for the rest of the game.

At the end of the first half, Romney was hit and taken to the ground after throwing a completion. Romney’s helmet hit the turf and the sophomore quarterback reached for his head following the hit.

Romney replaced Jaren Hall at the end of BYU’s win over Arizona State on September 18. Hall was unable to suit up against South Florida on September 25 and Romney led the Cougars to a win over the Bulls.
Conover’s first snap was his first action as a college football player. He was a highly-rated recruit out of the state of Arizona.
On the depth chart behind Conover is fellow freshman Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters.
