PROVO, Utah – BYU football fans have created quite the atmosphere at home games this season. Each of BYU’s three home games has produced at least 60,000+ fans showing that a good football team plus a desire to get back to normalcy out of the pandemic has left some memorable nights in Provo recently.

USF head coach Jeff Scott was the most recent coach to experience the party taking place amongst BYU fans at home football games.

Scott’s Bulls gave BYU a game falling by one possession despite coming into the game as a three-touchdown underdog. His team scored a touchdown on a fourth and goal in the face of BYU’s student section, “The ROC.” That was an accomplishment Scott feels his team can build on, but he couldn’t help but give props to BYU fans for the atmosphere they created.

During his weekly radio show, Scott heaped praise on BYU fans.

“Down there 4th & 1 in their student section after 18 plays and to be able to go down there and execute in the end zone. That was definitely a bright spot. I don’t think we’ll play anywhere this year that will be that loud. I give them a lot of credit. When we started, their students were in their seats two hours and 15 minutes before the game. It sounded like a concert for two straight hours while we were in the locker room. It was definitely as loud as advertised, one of the loudest environments I’ve ever coached in and I’ve been in a bunch of them.”

Scott was previously on the staff at Clemson. So he’s witnessed firsthand Death Valley and Howard’s Rock at Clemson as a player and coach. In addition, he’s played and coached in games in the ACC and SEC. So BYU fans leaving that type of impression on Scott is high praise for Cougar Nation.

The energy at BYU home football games is expected to continue. BYU has three more home games and their next contest in Provo is on October 9 against Boise State. That game is now officially a sellout.
