PROVO, Utah  – In one of the quietest National Signing Day’s ever, BYU football still managed to land one new commitment to the class of 2021. BYU picked up a commitment from Alta High safety Brock Fabrizio.

Fabrizio will be a preferred walk-on in the BYU program. He announced his commitment on his personal social media accounts.

“COMMITTED‼️ It’s been a long road but I am finally here. After my sophomore year, I had offers from BYU and Utah State. They kept the offers after my first ACL but after my second both of my scholarships were pulled. At a time where I didn’t think things could get worse, they did. I was crushed, my dreams of playing college football were gone in an instant.

“After 4 months of no schools reaching out or being interested in me, BYU came back and said they would offer me a PWO. Although it is not my ideal situation I am grateful to BYU for believing in me still and allowing me to keep playing. GO COUGS”

Path to BYU for Brock Fabrizio

Fabrizio only played in two games the past two seasons for Alta High School. As a sophomore in 2018, he racked up 45 tackles in the Hawks defense.

BYU has had recent success with former Alta High products at safety. Former BYU defensive back Austin Lee graduated from Alta and became a two-year starter for the Cougars in 2018-19. Lee worked with Fabrizio this past summer after the three-star prospect returned from his first ACL injury.

One trait that has become a common theme among BYU defensive back prospects is they have a track & field background. Fabrizio ran a personal best 10.91 100-meter during his junior year at Alta.

The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Fabrizio joins eight other high school prospects who have committed to play for BYU as preferred walk-ons in the 2021 recruiting cycle. Other preferred walk-on commits from the state of Utah include Micah Fe’a, QB (Orem), Austin Bell, RB (Corner Canyon), Ryker Keele, DL/OL (Morgan), Cael Richardson, LB (Timpview), Joshua Singh, DL (Orem), and Will Zundel, TE (American Fork).
