SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson has seen a meteoric rise up mock drafts, and the latest is NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.

Jeremiah, the NFL Network’s top NFL Draft analyst, and a former scout for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Philadelphia Eagles, put out his first mock draft for the 2021 draft.

According to the draft analyst, Wilson is headed to the New York Jets at No. 2, one spot after Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence at No. 1 to the Jaguars.

“The draft starts at this pick,” wrote Daniel Jeremiah on NFL.com. “The Jets have a lot of options, but Wilson’s upside would be tough to pass up.”

Jeremiah had a total of four quarterbacks being selected in the first round. The others included North Dakota State’s Trey Lance at No. 4 to the Atlanta Falcons and Ohio State’s Justin Fields to the Carolina Panthers at No. 8.

Daniel Jeremiah: Zach Wilson makes a football look like a Nerf ball

“I go back and rewatch more Zach Wilson, and Bucky [Brooks], some guys are just effortless,” said Jeremiah on his Move The Sticks Podcast. “I have the soundtrack of kind of like, ‘Easy Like Sunday Morning,’ when you’re watching him. I feel like he just got done having a little turkey, and he went in the backyard, but instead of a Nerf Turbo, he’s actually making these throws with a regular football.”

The New York Jets recently hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to be their new head coach. Saleh comes from a 49ers organization under Kyle Shanahan that Wilson viewed as a good fit for his skill set. The offensive coordinator for Saleh comes with him from San Francisco in Mike LaFleur.

Wilson passed for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns, and completed 74 percent of his passes as he led BYU to their first 11-win season since 2009 and their highest final ranking since 1996. On New Year’s Day, Wilson announced his intentions to forego his senior year at BYU and enter the NFL Draft.

Wilson is currently in California training for Pro Day and the draft.

The 2021 NFL draft occurs on Thursday, April 29 and runs through Saturday, May 1, and will take place in Cleveland, Ohio.
