Multiple Reports Surface About CFP Title Game Postponement, Officials Say Game On

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The CFP committee has had discussions about a possible postponement of the title game due to COVID-19 concerns with Ohio State.

The CFP (College Football Playoff) title game is scheduled for Monday, January 11 but a possible postponement could occur. Alabama is scheduled to play Ohio State for College Football’s biggest prize.
Brett McMurphy of Stadium reported the discussions with the CFP and the title game possibly being postponed.

Executive director of the College Football Playoff Bill Hancock said that “there are no changes to report. The game is scheduled for January 11 as planned and we look forward to it.”
The CFP announced last week that January 18 is a potential makeup date should the game be postponed.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg spoke with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith that the Buckeyes intend to play on January 11.
“We’re following the same protocols we followed all season long,” Smith told ESPN. “We intend to play on January 11th, and we continue to communicate with the Big Ten and now the CFP, so at this point in time, we see the game being played. But who knows what tomorrow will bring? That’s COVID. We’re on track right now.”
Alabama beat Notre Dame 31-14 in the Rose Bowl Game/CFP Semifinal. Ohio State knocked off Clemson 49-28 in the Sugar Bowl/CFP Semifinal. The Crimson Tide last won the national title was during the 2017 season as they beat Georgia 26-23 in overtime. Their last championship game appearance was in the 2018 season when they lost to Clemson.
Ohio State’s last national championship came during the 2014 in the inaugural College Football Playoff, beating Oregon.
