EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah – The Corner Canyon Chargers completed their three-peat with a 45-7 win over Lone Peak in the 6A State Championship game.

It’s also the 40th straight win for the Chargers, finishing the 2020 season with a perfect 14-0 record.

Jaxson Dart was outstanding for Corner Canyon, throwing for four touchdowns, all to different receivers. He also ran in a touchdown as did Dylan Carlson. Dart finished with 329 passing and 116 rushing yards.

Dart Scores Three TD’s In First Half

On the first drive of the game, Dart led the Chargers down the field and connected with Noah Kjar for the first touchdown of the game. Corner Canyon had a 7-0 lead with 7:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Lone Peak was forced to punt on their first offensive possession of the championship game. The Chargers capitalized as Dart ran in an 18-yard touchdown to give Corner Canyon a 14-0 lead with 3:36 remaining in the opening quarter.

As Lone Peak tried to answer on their next drive, the snap went right of Heimuli’s hands and the Chargers recovered the fumble in prime field position. Five plays later, Dylan Carlson ran in a one-yard touchdown to give the defending champions a 21-0 lead with 1:46 left in the first.

The next score in the first half didn’t come until late in the second quarter when Dart found Talmage Handley for the first time in the game. The Chargers’ lead was 28-0 with 3:14 left until halftime.

Just before the break, Corner Canyon made a chip shot field goal to take a 31-0 lead into the locker room.

Corner Canyon Coasts To State Championship

Lone Peak started the second half with the ball. Penalties forced them to punt the ball away on their first drive of the half. Corner Canyon answered as Dart connected with Jett Meine for a TD to put the game out of reach. The Chargers had a 38-0 lead with 6:45 left in the third quarter. After that drive, Dart set the single season state total yards record with 5,825. He passed Riley Nelson’s 2005 record.

Corner Canyon scored their last touchdown of the season when Dart threw an 18-yard pass to Cody Hagen. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Will Christensen suffered an injury and needed to be carted off the field.

With 5:59 remaining in the game, Luke Romney threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Weston Covey for the Knights.
