BYU Center Sara Hamson Joins Family Members In 300-Block Club

PROVO, Utah – Only three players in BYU women’s basketball history have blocked 300 shots in a career. All three have the last name, Hamson.
Welcome 6’7″ junior center Sara Hamson as the latest addition to BYU’s exclusive 300-block club.

Heading into Thursday night’s game against Saint Mary’s, Hamson needed five blocks to reach the 300-mark and she got her fifth block late in the second half putting her at an even 300 on her career. Hamson ended up with four points, five blocks, seven rebounds, and two assists as BYU cruised to a 60-39 victory over the Gaels.
This season, Hamson is number one in the country for blocked shots with 101 this season and 4.39 blocks per game.
The only other two women to hit the 300-block mark in their careers at BYU include Hamson’s mother Tresa Spaulding Hamson who swatted 494 shots from 1984-1987 and Sara’s sister, Jennifer Hamson who blocked 340 in her career that ended in 2014.

Hamson has another guaranteed six games this year with five in the regular season and at least one game in the West Coast Conference Tournament. Then Hamson will be back for her senior year next season. If she continues at this pace she’s currently at this year, she has a chance to pass her mother to be the all-time block leader in BYU history.

Hamson is currently 69 blocks away from cracking the top 25 in NCAA Women’s Basketball history for most blocks in a career.
With the win over Saint Mary’s, BYU is now 14-9 overall and 9-4 this season in West Coast Conference play. BYU will host Pacific this Saturday at the Marriott Center with tip-off set for 2 p.m. (MST).
