BYU RB Ty’Son Williams Out For Remainder Of Season With Torn ACL

PROVO, Utah – The BYU football team will be without Ty’Son Williams for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Williams, a graduate transfer from South Carolina, went to his personal social media accounts on Sunday to announce that he tore his ACL and will miss the rest of this season with the Cougars.

”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,”plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Unfortunately, my 2019 season has come to an end due to an ACL tear in my left knee. Having no regrets as every time I gave it my all when I was out there. I appreciate all my family and friends reaching out as I always say “I love y’all.”

Williams suffered the ACL injury after receiving a 16-yard pass that resulted in a first down for the BYU offense. Two Washington defenders collided with the Cougars feature running back.

2019 marked Williams’ first season with the BYU football program and he made an instant impact for the Cougars. In four games, Williams rushed for 264 yards, hauled in 47 receiving yards, and had three total touchdowns.

The former four-star recruit could apply for a medical hardship year from the NCAA but there are no guarantees that he would receive a sixth year from the NCAA.

Heading into this season, Williams was on the Senior Bowl watch list for potential NFL Draft prospects in the class of 2020.

After being attended to by medical staff, former BYU defensive back Derwin “Dewey” Gray shared a moment with Williams and prayed with him and his family.

Going forward for BYU, the Cougars will lean on graduate transfer Emmanuel Esukpa and sophomore Lopini Katoa. Redshirt freshman Tyler Allgeier, a preferred walk-on, moved from running back to linebacker this past week and had a forced fumble in the loss against Washington.

The third running back for BYU will likely be redshirt freshman Sione Finau who prepped at Kearns High School. Finau appeared on one drive Saturday against the Huskies.

Other running backs include junior college walk-on Alec Wyble-Meza, true freshman Jackson McChesney, and walk-on redshirt freshman Morgan Pyper.
