BYU QB Zach Wilson Impersonates Patrick Mahomes In Practice

PROVO, Utah – BYU sophomore quarterback Zach Wilson is 100-percent cleared and ready to go for his first full season as the Cougars starting signal-caller.
Wilson has received a lot of praise from his coaches that include head coach Kalani Sitake and mentors such as former BYU quarterback great John Beck coining him as a “football junkie.”
With being a football junkie, Wilson is watching a lot of film on games that he appeared in last season, his opponents, and also NFL games.
One of those QB’s that Wilson studies reigning MVP winner Patrick Mahomes for the Kansas City Chiefs. In practice earlier this week, Wilson did his best Patrick Mahomes “no-look pass” impersonation.

Mahomes, the defending MVP winner, might be the guy Wilson emulates in practice, but the quarterback from the NFL that he loves to study the most is Green Bay Packers star, Aaron Rodgers. You can listen to Wilson discuss the other quarterbacks he studies in an interview from the Cougar Tracks Podcast earlier this month.
Last season, Wilson threw for 1,578 yards on a 65.9 percent completion rate. The Draper, Utah native passed for 12 touchdowns and only had three interceptions. Those numbers come against only one Power Five opponent from last season.
Beginning next Thursday in Provo, BYU opens the 2019 season with four Power Five opponents starting with rival Utah, at Tennessee, and then Pac-12 powers USC and Washington at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
