BYU’s Mark Pope Hires Three New Assistant Coaches

PROVO, Utah – Newly hired BYU men’s head basketball coach Mark Pope has filled out his coaching staff with the hires of Cody Fueger, Chris Burgess and Nick Robinson.

“I couldn’t be more excited about having put together this staff,” said Pope in a press release. “This group is so capable and they check every box that I require of my assistant coaches: they’re loyal, they’re exceptionally competent at player development on the court and relationship building off, they’re 24/7 guys and they all have ambitions of growing in this profession and becoming head coaches.”

Fueger and Burgess were members of Pope staff at UVU for the last four seasons while Robinson was an assistant at Seattle University for the last two.

Rich Coaching Experience

Working primarily with guards and wingmen, Fueger played a key role in developing Jake Toolson into the WAC Player of the Year in 2018-19. Toolson has since announced his transfer back to BYU for next season.

Burgess, once the No. 1 recruit in the country in his playing days, played at both Duke and Utah as a college player. He worked as a student assistant at Utah following his time playing as a professional abroad and spent a year at Indian Hills Community College before joining Pope at UVU.

After serving head coach at Southern Utah from 2012-16, Robinson spent two seasons as an assistant at Seattle. He played his college ball at Stanford from 2001-05, where he served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons for a highly successful Cardinal program.
