BYU basketball watch party at the Marriott Center
BYU announced that they will open the Marriott Center doors on Thursday night for a watch party.
The Cougars are gearing up for their first Sweet 16 game since the 2011 season with star player Jimmer Fredette. It’s been 14 years since the Cougars played in the second weekend of the Big Dance, so BYU is opening the doors of the Marriott Center to watch the game.

Admission is free to the watch party and open to the general public.
This is the first watch party at the Marriott Center for a BYU sporting event since the BYU women’s soccer team reached the National Championship in 2021 against Florida State.
Sweet 16 clash
BYU basketball is flying high entering the Sweet 16 after a pair of victories in Denver, Colorado, last week over VCU and No. 3 seed Wisconsin.
The Cougars have won 11 of its past 12 games, with the lone setback coming against current No. 1 seed Houston two weeks ago at the Big 12 Tournament.
Since the NCAA Tournament began seeding teams in 1979, this is BYU’s third appearance in the Sweet 16. They are 1-1 in the previous two Sweet 16 games, which took place in 1981 and 2011.
If BYU defeats Alabama on Thursday night in Newark, it will advance to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1981.
