Three Utah Jazz Jerseys Ranked Among Top 74 In NBA History

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Three Utah Jazz jerseys from the franchise’s history were ranked among the top 74 NBA jerseys all-time by ESPN.

In honor of the NBA’s 74th season this year, ESPN “got together to rank the top 74 jerseys to ever grace an NBA court.”

Three jerseys worn by the Jazz since 1984 made the list, including one currently worn by the team.

53. City Edition (2017-Present)

The first jersey to make the countdown of 74 was the “City Edition” sunset at No. 53.

“All for any Utah jersey that incorporates mountains or rock formations — instead of you know, Jazz, which belongs in another city,” wrote ESPN’s Andrew Lopez.

The Jazz first introduced the red, orange, yellow, and black fading jerseys when the NBA partnered with Nike prior to the 2017-18 season.

37. Purple Mountains (1996-2004)

At No. 37, he “Purple Mountain” jerseys that are synonymous with the Jazz’s NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998 were the next to make the list.

“Though the loud, oversized mountain graphics took some warming up to in contrast to Stockton and Malone’s old-school game, they were worn during the franchise’s only Finals appearances, and are now one of the most beloved classic looks leaguewide,” wrote ESPN’s Nick DePaula.

For the 2019-20 season, the Jazz revived the “Purple Mountains” for its “Classic Edition” jersey. Alongside the jersey, the organization also brought back the court design used in the late 90s and early 2000s.

25. Purple Jazz Note (1984-1996)

Another purple jersey worn by the Jazz made the top 25 on the list of 74. Prior to the mountain themed jerseys, the Jazz wore purple jerseys on the road that featured the team’s classic Jazz Note logo.

“When the Jazz moved to Utah, they switched from purple road jerseys to green. They switched back in 1984, became a Western Conference contender, and went back to a similar look for their current jersey set,” wrote ESPN’s Adam Reisinger.
