Tony Finau Bypasses John Deere Classic, Next Even Will Be The Open Championship

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau will not be in the field for this week’s John Deere Classic, rather, his next start will be at Royal St. George’s Golf Club for The Open Championship starting on July 15.

Finau, 31, has endured a poor run of form entering The Open as he has missed the cut at his previous two starts. It is only the second time this year that Finau has missed two consecutive cuts.

Finau’s Recent Struggles

The struggles began for Finau at the U.S. Open when many pundits speculated that Finau was dealing with a wrist injury after he played the opening two rounds with tape wrapped around his right wrist.

However, the following week at The Travelers Championship Finau assured that he was not dealing with any sort of injury prior to the tournament and played the opening two rounds with no tape to be seen.

Bright U.S. Open History

Fortunately, Finau’s best finish in a Major tournament came at The Open when he finished in lone 3rd at the 2019 event. Finau has finished in the top 30 in every Open Championship since he debuted in 2016.

Finau and his family are currently enjoying the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. He recently posted photos on his social media of himself and his family enjoying the beautiful sights of Red Ledges Golf Club in Heber City, Utah.

He is expected to fly across the pond within the next week to give himself plenty of time to familiarize himself with Royal St. George’s Golf Club.
