Utah TE Brant Kuithe Is Officially Out For Remainder Of Season

Nov 11, 2024, 11:03 AM | Updated: 4:20 pm

SALT LAKE CITY— Three-time All-Pac-12 tight end Brant Kuithe’s injury against BYU has unfortunately brought his 2024 campaign to an end.

On Monday, Kyle Whittingham provided further details on the situation.

“We will miss Brant. It rips your heart out to see that happen to Brant,” Whittingham said. “It looks, at least at this time, pretty extensive and certainly season-ending from what we understand. So, thoughts and prayers are extended to Brant and his family.”

Kuithe’s injury appears to have been suffered as he made the break on his route. The injury happened away from the play on a third-down incompletion intended for Munir McClain.

Kuithe missed all of last season but returned this year fully healthy after suffering an ACL tear against Arizona State in 2022. This is a get wrenching injury for him and the program, as he was genuinely making the sort of impact that reminded everyone of how good he truly is.

Utah’s Tight End Position Moving Forward

Without Kuithe leading the way, Utah will look to others to step up. Dallen Bentley and Carsen Ryan will shoulder the bulk of that responsibility. The two are bigger, more traditional tight end types, but Ryan has shown real promise as a pass catcher.

However, Utah loses some dynamic ability without Kuithe. Landen King was the primary option behind him and he was to become a bigger part of the equation. He hasn’t been utilized as much this season but he has the sort of athletic ability to provide that dynamic. Caleb Lohner has also flashed serious ability as a pass catcher and see increased opportunity.

Brant Kuithe’s 2024 Season, Utah Career

He finished with four catches for 23 yards and a touchdown. He also had a rushing touchdown, marking the second time this season that he has scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game. His season ends with 35 receptions for 505 yards, six touchdowns, and a couple of rushing touchdowns.

Over the span of his career, Kuithe was incredibly productive. He finished third all-time in receiving yards at Utah with 183 receptions for 2,387 yards and 22 touchdowns.

He added 25 carries for 188 yards and six touchdowns on the ground, which speaks to his overall ability and impact.
