PROVO, Utah – Former five-star offensive tackle recruit Kingsley Suamataia from Oregon is transferring to BYU football.

Suamataia dropped a commitment video on his social media feeds with “Coming Home” from Dirty Money playing in the background.

“Blessed as the Lord is mindful of my struggles and strengths. I am truly thankful to everyone in my life, most of all my family. We are stronger together than apart. #DKT76 Time to Do King Things #AigaFaaVavau LETS GO,” wrote Suamataia.

Suamataia is a massive commitment for BYU. Coming out of Orem High School, Suamataia was a five-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He was the 36th overall recruit in the class of 2021 rankings. Suamataia signed with the Oregon Ducks out of Orem High School, where he was the highest-rated recruit in one of the Ducks’ best-recruiting classes ever.

The 6-foot-6, 317-pound offensive tackle had offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and others coming out of high school.

Suamataia enrolled at Oregon this past January and competed in spring practices. During fall camp, Suamataia’s offensive line coach at Oregon told Fan Nation that Suamataia could become a first-round NFL draft pick.

Last week, Suamataia entered the Transfer Portal and upon entering, BYU was immediately viewed as a favorite. In large part because of the long list of family connections Suamataia has to the BYU football program. He listed those connections during his commitment video from Ale Ah You, Kingsley Ah You, Harland Ah You, Hyrum Summers, CJ Ah You, Matt Ah You, Chaz Ah You, Gabe Summers, Jasen Ah You, Jack Damuni, Kalin Hall, Raymond Galei, Tevita Ofahengaue, Gabe Reid, Mark Atuaia, Donny Atuaia, and John Moeaki.

Suamataia took an official visit to BYU football last week. He was seen at the BYU Trunk or Treat, taking in the family atmosphere in the Cougars program.

Suamataia will enroll at BYU this January and will compete in spring practices. Due to the NCAA’s new one-time waiver rule, Suamataia will be eligible to play next season along the offensive line for Cougars.
