SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Orem high school star and Washington wide receiver Puka Nacua has reportedly entered the transfer portal.

Puka Nacua is in the portal after two seasons with the Washington Huskies.

This comes nine days after his brother Samson entered the transfer portal after five years at Utah.

Nacua tweeted to Washington fans, “Thank you so much for accepting me and being apart of this chapter in my life. Memories and relationships made here will last a lifetime. My heart is filled with gratitude for my brothers on the team and to Coach Lake, Coach Adams, Coach Socha and Coach Sammons and the training staff as well.

“But at this time it’s best for me and my family [sic] my path go elsewhere and I’m excited for what the future has to hold.”

Many believe that both Samson and Puka Nacua will try to join forces at BYU in their hometown of Provo, Utah. Puka declined to comment further with the Seattle Times.

As a freshman in 2019, Nacua caught seven passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns in three games played before suffering a season-ending injury. During the 2020 season, he appeared in three of Washington’s four games, racking up 9 receptions for 151 yards and one TD. For his two year career in Seattle, Nacua had 16 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns in six games.

Nacua is the third Washington wide receiver to enter the transfer portal this offseason for Jimmy Lake’s team. He joins former Provo star Ty Jones (Fresno State) and Jordan Chin (Sacramento State).

He went to Washington as a four-star recruit out of Orem high school, breaking multiple state records, including career receptions (260), career receiving yards (5,226), career receiving touchdowns (58), single season receptions (103), single season receiving yards (2,336) and single season receiving touchdowns (26).
