SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – University of Utah forward Timmy Allen will declare for the 2020 NBA Draft but will not hire an agent to maintain eligibility.

Allen has until June 3 to decide to keep his eligibility or hire an agent.

The NBA released a new rule a couple of years ago where draft prospects could declare for the draft, do some workouts for NBA teams and receive feedback from scouts before deciding if they want to return to school or enter the NBA Draft and hire an agent.

Allen had a tremendous start to the season where he averaged over 20 points per game during non-conference. His average dipped to 17.5 points per game when the season ended and was named to the All-Pac-12 second team. During his freshman campaign, Allen averaged 12.2 points per game.

The Utes finished the 2019-20 season with a 16-15 overall record and a 7-11 mark in Pac-12 play.

Allen has the potential to be an NBA player. He doesn’t let size get in the way of him attacking the rim and being productive in the paint. The Mesa, Arizona native will need to work on developing a consistent outside shot.

It will be good for Allen to get feedback from NBA scouts which will help him improve his game in preparation for the 2020-21 season. It’s a win-win situation for Allen and the Runnin’ Utes.
