LOGAN, Utah – Utah State football head coach Gary Andersen named Bodie Reeder the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Andersen named Reeder Utah State’s OC and QB coach on Wednesday, January 15.

Reeder comes to Logan after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for North Texas. He was a member of the Mean Green coaching staff for the 2019 season.

Reeder fills an opening on the Aggies’ offensive staff left by Mike Sanford Jr.’s departure. Sanford took the offensive coordinator position with the Minnesota Gophers football program at the beginning of January.

Under Sanford, Utah State finished the 2019 season with a 7-6 record, a third-place finish in the Mountain West Conference Mountain Divison, and a 51-41 loss to Kent State in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl.

Sanford led the Aggies’ offense to the No. 44 ranked total offense in college football. Utah State’s offense averaged 431.3 yards per game and scored 40 touchdowns in 2019.

Reeder’s Recent Stops

Prior to coaching at North Texas, Reeder was the OC and QB coach at Eastern Washington from 2017-18.

Before his time with the Eagles, Reeder spent time as an offensive quality control coach for Oklahoma State. He was with the Cowboys from 2014-16.

Reeder first served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with Wisconsin-Stout from 2011-14.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Eastern Illinois in 2010.

Offensive Production

Last season with the Mean Green, Reeder’s team averaged 30.3 points per game.

North Texas ranked No. 54 in the country with 418.6 yards per contest.

They led Conference USA with 33 touchdown passes which ranked No. 15 in the nation.

Defensive Changes

Andersen announced that current Utah State assistant coaches Stacy Collins and Frank Maile will serve at the team’s co-defensive coordinators.

Collins spent the 2019 season as the Aggies’ running backs coach. Before coaching with the offense, Collins worked with USU’s inside linebackers from 2017-18. Collins will also coach the secondary in 2020.

Maile also moves to the defensive side of the ball after spending last season as USU’s tight ends coach. He previously served at the Aggies’ co-defensive coordinator from 2016-18. Maile will also coach the defensive line.

Justin Ena, who was the team’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach in 2019, will continue to coach the inside linebackers in 2020.

Mark Orphey, who coached the secondary last season, will continue in the capacity and assist Collins in 2020.
