Sitake: Jaren Hall Will Be BYU’s Starting QB Against South Florida

TOLEDO, Ohio – BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said that “Jaren Hall will be our quarterback” in the Cougars’ next game. BYU heads to South Florida on Saturday, October 12.

Quarterback Zach Wilson was injured on BYU’s second to last possession and did not play in the final drive of the game.

Hall entered the game and led the Cougars down the field for an unsuccessful hail mary throw as time expired.

After the game, Sitake spoke about Wilson’s injury and said the starting QB would likely miss the Cougars’ next game and possibly more.

Sitake said that Wilson experienced an injury on his throwing hand.

BYU will now turn to backup quarterback Jaren Hall to lead the team while Wilson is out.

“There’s some things we can do with at quarterback that gives us a little bit of an advantage,” said Sitake of Hall. “I’m glad we have another week to get ready because it looks like he’s probably going to be the guy going against South Florida.”

Hall is a redshirt freshman for BYU. He played in two games during the Cougars’ 2018 schedule, running the ball four times for four yards.

This season, Hall has played in four of BYU’s five games. The quarterback is 4/7 for 58 yards and an average of 8.29 yards per completion.

Hall is from Spanish Fork, UT. He played high school football at Maple Mountain.

BYU is used to playing multiple quarterbacks in a season in the independence era. The Cougars have only had the same starting quarterback throughout an entire season one time since becoming independent in football.

Only one season (2013) in the independence era has #BYU had the same starting QB for every game throughout a season.
