Urban Meyer Makes Appearance At Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – Urban Meyer is back in the Beehive State and seems to be enjoying his time as a retired football coach. He visited Utah State football in Logan.

Meyer has been out of a job for less than a year. In fact, this season will be the second season in 18 years college football will be without one of the great coaches of all time.

Meyer started his head coaching career at Bowling Green, before bouncing to Utah for two seasons, Florida for five and Ohio State for six.

Meyer announced his retirement from college football on December 4, 2018. His final game was the Rose Bowl.

Since then, there have been rumors that Meyer will return to Utah to catch up with longtime friend and former colleague Kyle Whittingham.

However, Meyer was spotted farther North.

Whittingham and Meyer have known each for a long time. When Ron McBride was fired from his head coaching duties at the University of Utah at the conclusion of the 2002 season, Meyer took over and kept Kyle Whittingham on the staff. Whittingham would eventually take over as head coach in 2004 when Meyer departed Salt Lake City to take the head coaching job at Florida.

Meyer and Whittingham have remained friends over the years and frequently talked with one and other over the phone.

Meyer’s coaching record is impressive, to say the least. He won 187 games while only losing 32 over the course of his 18-year career.

Speculation surrounding Meyer’s next coaching stint is vague, however, rumors have suggested that the legendary coach will be back on the sidelines as a head coach at the University of Southern California.
