More Utah Universities Remember Lauren McCluskey

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rivalries across the state have been put on hold as in-state colleges and universities have joined the University of Utah in mourning the loss of Ute track and field student athlete, Lauren McCluskey.
Police said McCluskey, age 21, was killed Monday night in an on-campus shooting by 37-year-old Melvin Rowland. The two had reportedly been dating for about a month before friends said McCluskey ended the relationship in early October, after learning he had lied about his name and age.
The BYU athletics department honored McCluskey Tuesday by wearing red, and holding flags with the Utes’ drum-and-feather logo, in a sign of solidarity with Utah.

The Weber State athletics department also wore red in memory of the late Utah track star.

The University of Utah announced plans Tuesday to memorialize McCluskey by creating a pair of logos, including a winged foot bearing the name “Lauren”, for its teams to wear in upcoming games.
