NEW ORLEANS – The Philadelphia Eagles could do no wrong on either side of the ball in the first half of Super Bowl LIX as they soared to a 24-0 lead by halftime.
It was the opposite story for Kansas City. Through the first two quarters, the Chiefs had 23 total yards and two turnovers.

Although the slow Kansas City start was partially self-inflicted, much of the credit is owed to dominance from the Eagles. Specifically, the front seven.
Patrick Mahomes had almost no time in the pocket which led to errant throws and two interceptions.
The Eagles took advantage both times. One was a pick-six and the other turned into an offensive touchdown.

In the first half, Kansas City was 0 for 6 on third downs, averaged 1.2 yards per play, and had possession for 10 minutes compared to almost 20 for the Eagles.
With all of that said, you don’t even have to go back a full decade to find a game that could motivate the Chiefs. In 2017, Tom Brady and the Patriots came back from down 25 points to defeat the Atlanta Falcons.
Easier said than done though. It would take a complete 180 from both Kansas City and Philly to make a comeback even plausible in New Orleans.
About Super Bowl LIX
The 59th Super Bowl, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, took place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday, February 9.
The game was the 11th time that the Super Bowl took place in New Orleans. The last was back in 2013 when the Ravens defeated the 49ers, 34-31.
Regarding the Super Bowl LIX opponents, it is the second time in three years that the Chiefs and Eagles have met on the NFL’s biggest stage. In 2023, Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35 at State Farm Stadium.
However, aside from more experience in Philly, they added maybe the most dangerous running back in the league. Saquon Barkley led the NFL in rushing yards this season and has only upped his game in the playoffs.
With all of that said, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs are still at the top of their game. Before kickoff, ESPN analytics slightly favored the Eagles.
WELCOME TO SUPER BOWL LIX SUNDAY.
