What A Third Straight Super Bowl Win Means For Andy Reid
Just by advancing out of the AFC, Kansas City has already made history. Only eight teams have ever won back-to-back Super Bowls. Only two have done it this millennium.
However, dating all the way back to the 1967 Green Bay Packers who were the first team to defend their title, no team has ever made it to the biggest stage for a third time after winning two straight rings.
Three-peating in North American sports is by no means impossible. A handful of hockey teams, basketball teams, and even a baseball team have done it. But, in football? Unprecedented.

If the Chiefs prevail over the Eagles, Reid will win his fourth Super Bowl as a head coach and fifth overall if you count the Packers winning with Reid as an assistant coach back in 1997.
A win would move him into a tie for second with Chuck Noll for Super Bowl wins as a head coach. Counting his win with Green Bay, five rings would place him third all-time for Super Bowl wins among players and coaches combined, trailing only Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
It Takes A Village
There is a lot more history to be made though.
First, if Kansas City wins, they will tie the New England Patriots’ record for the most consecutive postseason wins in NFL history (10). The franchise’s fifth Super Bowl win would move them from the top seven to the top five for teams with the most Lombardi Trophies. They would tie the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys for second.
For Patrick Mahomes, a fourth ring would tie him for the second-most all-time among quarterbacks. Mind you, he would tie Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw, before reaching his 30th birthday. Both Montana and Bradshaw played in the NFL for 14 or more seasons. Mahomes is in year eight.
Another Chiefs star, Travis Kelce, would tie Randy Grossman and Marv Fleming for the most Super Bowl wins as a tight end (4).

All of this to say, from the coaching staff to the players, there is a lot of never-before-seen greatness happening in front of our eyes.
Whether you hate them or love them, Kansas City is making history and cementing itself as one of the top dynasties in NFL history.
About Andy Reid
Reid played college football at BYU from 1978-80 and returned to Provo as a graduate assistant on BYU head coach LaVell Edwards’ staff.
After a few years of coaching in college, Reid accepted a position with the Green Bay Packers in 1992.
He received his first NFL head coach position with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. Reid led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX where they fell to the New England Patriots 24-21. After the 2012 season, Reid’s contract with the Eagles wasn’t renewed.

In 2013, he was hired as the Chiefs’ head coach. Reid led Kansas City to a 31-20 over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. In February 2023, Reid and the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII to win their second title in four years.
