As Expected, Jaylon Johnson To Sit Out Alamo Bowl

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – As expected, University of Utah star cornerback Jaylon Johnson will miss the Alamo Bowl against Texas and begin preparations for the upcoming NFL Draft.
Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed Johnson’s decision on Saturday.

“He has elected to enter the NFL Draft,” Whittingham said about Johnson. “Which is no surprise, we all knew that was the original plan and he has also decided that he is going to forgo the bowl game.”
Johnson announced on Friday night that he will forgo his senior season and enter the 2020 NFL Draft.

Whittingham was asked what his role is in this situation with a player wanting to skip the bowl game.
“I gave my advice and my opinion but it is ultimately the players decision, so we did have a discussion,” Whittingham added.
The junior defensive back has played for the Utes since 2017. During his three-year college career, Johnson has appeared in 38 games.
The day before Johnson’s announcement, he was recognized as one of college football’s best players being named a Walter Camp All-American.
The 2020 NFL Combine runs from February 23-March 2, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 2020 NFL Draft will be held from April 23-25 in Nevada.
