Utes Hope For Fan Support In Bowl Game In Heavily Recruited State

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – One of the positives of playing in the Alamo Bowl for the University of Utah is to play in the state that is heavily recruited by the Utes coaching staff.

“We have three main footprints: Southern California, in-state here in Utah and in Texas,” Whittingham said. “The majority of our team is comprised of players from those three areas. It’s going to be great exposure for our team and our program to come to San Antonio and be able to play in that state and have recruits take note of that.”

The University of Utah is asking for fan support down in Texas for the Alamo Bowl.

Over half of Utah’s 120-man roster is from the three states that the Utes heavily recruit. 38 players are from Utah, 34 from California and 11 from Texas. With the early signing period on Wednesday, the Utes have 11 players committed verbally. six of those players are from Texas.

Those six players include Ty Jordan from Mesquite, Texas, running back John Gentry from Houston, wide receiver Money Parks from Aledo, outside linebacker Jaylan Ford from Frisco, safety Ben Renfro from Magnolia and outside linebacker Graham Faloona from Southlake. They also picked up a transfer quarterback from Baylor, Peyton Powell, who is from Odessa, Texas.

The Utes will face Texas in the Alamo Bowl on December 31. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN.
