Wright has not made a formal announcement, as of Thursday afternoon.
The 6-foot-1 guard will take the spot of Egor Demin in BYU’s lineup. Demin departed for the NBA.
Like Demin, Wright was an All-Big 12 Freshman Team selection this past season.
Baylor guard Robert Wright commits to BYU
Wright was the No. 1 point guard out of Montverde Academy in the 2024 recruiting cycle. In the past season at Baylor, he scored 11.5 points, dished out 4.2 assists, and grabbed 2.1 rebounds while shooting 41.4% from the field.
Wright shined against BYU last season, scoring 22 points in BYU’s overtime win over the Bears. One game later, on February 1, Wright shined in a comeback victory over Kansas. He scored 24 points in a game where the Bears were shorthanded.

Over the past few days, Wright’s recruitment has been a hot topic in college basketball circles. ESPN.com’s Myron Medcalf reported that Baylor was surprised by Wright’s entry into the transfer portal. Then, there was a lot of social media speculation regarding the potential financial offer from BYU for Wright.
Regardless, BYU reportedly gets its top-flight point guard to pair up with AJ Dybantsa next season. The two faced off against each other when Dybantsa was at Prolific Prep and Wright was at Montverde.
Adding Wright gives BYU a star guard to lead a high-powered attack with Dybantsa and Keba Keita already in the fold. Richie Saunders has one year remaining of eligibility, but has put himself on NBA radars and hasn’t publicly announced his plans for next season.
The addition of Wright puts BYU in the mix to potentially make another run to the Sweet 16 again, or even further next season.
