Fousseyni Traore signs with SIG Strasbourg in France
The French Pro A league squad, based in Strasbourg, France, issued a press release in French announcing Traore’s signing. When translated to English, the opening line stated, “Fresh out of Brigham Young University in Utah, where legend Danny Ainge notably passed through, Fousseyni Traore has just completed his NCAA program.”
Traore has been a fixture in BYU’s rotations over the past four seasons. He played in 128 games and had 63 starts for the Cougars, posting averages of 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Throughout his BYU career, he was a fan favorite, with Cougar fans at the Marriott Center chanting “Foussss” when he made a play.
Traore finished in the Top 25 scorers in BYU basketball history with 1,338 points. The native of Bamako, Mali, finished sixth all-time in rebounds at BYU with 869.
He also boasts the number one career field goal percentage at 61.1%, passing Alan Taylor, who held the record since 1980, before Traore arrived in Provo.
“Fouss has been a mainstay here. … He’s just been rock solid, he’s just steady. He gives us a different look offensively, which is a luxury,” BYU Basketball head coach Kevin Young said of Traore entering Senior Day in March.
Traore was part of two BYU basketball teams that reached the NCAA Tournament, including last year’s group that reached the Sweet 16 round.
